John A. Bast, 68 of Genoa, OH died unexpectedly Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Magurder Hospital, Port Clinton, OH. He was born August 24, 1954 in Oregon, OH to Alfred and Donna (Hotmer) Bast. He was a 1972 graduate of Oak Harbor High School. On March 1, 1974 he married the former Jacquelyn K. Porath and she survives. John retired in 2012 from Roadway as a truck driver and also enjoyed his many years of building houses and carpentry. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Elliston where he was a very active trustee he also enjoyed making a mission trip to the Philippines. He enjoyed riding his Harley with his wife. He also loved baking, gardening and canning with his daughter, Kim and ice fishing with his son, Jeff. John loved visiting and spending quality time with his daughter Christina and her family. He traveled with his wife and extended family, to such places as Mexico, Florida, Tennessee, and the UP. But most of all he loved spending time with his family and playing with all his many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was also very proud of his 31 years of sobriety, and the many friends he had made through AA and Al-Anon programs.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years Jackie of Genoa, OH; children: Jeffery Bast of Put-in-Bay, OH, Kimberly Bast of Oak Harbor, OH, and Christina (Joshua) Hurst of Port Clinton, OH; mother Donna Schell of Genoa; grandchildren: Andrew Reagan, Dakota Kroeger, Ashten Reagan, Alexys Doolin, Blake Doolin, Marrie Doolin, Chandler Chasteen, Marleta Chasteen, Dane Jacob Lewis ,Grayson Neff and Jacob Seaman great- grandchildren Novalleen and Nye’Ellie; sister Peggy Bast of Berlin Hights, OH; brothers Steve (Linda) Bast of Curtice, OH and Richard (Kathy) Bast of Oak Harbor, OH; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews that loved him. He was preceded in death by his father Alfred Bast.
Visitation will be from 2-8pm Wednesday at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 1pm, with the family to receive friends beginning at 12pm on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Trinity United Church of Christ, Elliston with Pastor Ryan Shields officiating. A luncheon will be provided following the services. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Trinity United Church of Christ or a Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
