Johanna B. Petersen

Johanna B. Petersen, 89, of Port Clinton, Ohio, died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at her son's residence in Port Clinton. She was born on April 25, 1921 in East Syracuse, New York, the daughter of the late Ralph and Erma (Leber) Tassche. She married Donald F. Petersen, Sr. on August 23, 1947 and he preceded her in death on February 14, 1988. She worked at the former Standard Products in Port Clinton, and then left to raise her family and help out on the family farm. She was a member of the Shoreline Church in Oak Harbor, the Bay Township Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary, and also a member of the Grandmothers' Club. Her hobbies included: cooking, sewing, and most importantly, knitting, as she made several sweaters, scarves, and stockings for her family and friends. Survivors include her sons: Donald F. Petersen, Jr. (Linda Thayer), of Port Clinton and Louis E. Petersen, of Marblehead, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 27 great- grandchildren and 2 great- great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter: Barbara Goode; sister: Anna Marie Middleton; brothers: Edmond G. Tassche, Frank Tassche, and Louis E. Tassche; and great-grandchild Tracy Redfern. Per Johanna's wishes, she donated her body to science. A memorial service to celebrate Johanna's life will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:00 am at Shoreline Church, 769 N. Locust Street, Oak Harbor, Ohio. Pastor Bill Blue will officiate. A fellowship meal will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bay Township Fire Department or to the Shoreline Church.
