While surrounded by her loving family, Joanne Rosalind Bollinger-Lucas, 81, of Marblehead, Ohio died Tuesday, December 09, 2008 at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio, after she courageously fought breast cancer for 26 years. She was born on September 20, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Lee Whitezel and Rose Bollinger. After graduating from high school, Joanne worked as an equestrian at White Horse Ranch in Nebraska, moved back to Ohio and worked at General Electric in Bellevue, OH. She then married Robert R. Lucas on September 14, 1957 and stayed at home to raise her family. After the kids were grown, she went back to work as a cook at Deno's Restaurant in Marblehead. Joanne was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead; member of the Altar Rosary Society; and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Marblehead VFW Post #7572. Her hobbies included cooking, watching baseball- especially the Cleveland Indians, and watching western TV shows. She was an avid animal lover, especially horses. Survivors include her husband: Robert; daughter: Rose Joanne Lucas-Haninger, of Dublin, OH; sons: Robert Joseph Lucas and Thomas Anthony Lucas, both of Marblehead; granddaughters: Erin Rose Haninger and Laurie Beth Haninger. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Robert Grine and Bud Bollinger. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2008 from 2-8 PM at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 East Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, where prayer services will be held at 2 PM by Reverend Daniel J. Ring, and where VFW services will be held at 5 PM by members of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Marblehead VFW Post #7572. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008 from 9:30 AM until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead with Reverend Daniel J. Ring officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
