Joan W. Ahlers

Joan W. Ahlers, 77, of Catawba Island, OH died Friday, August 22, 2014 at her home. She was born Jan. 20, 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of the late William L. and Hilda (Halferty) Wilt. She was a 1957 graduate of West Penn School of Nursing. She married Roger Ahlers on Jan. 28, 1958 and he preceded her in death in 2006. Joan was a cardiac nurse anesthetist at the Cleveland Clinic for over 20 years, retiring in 1998. Joan was known for her energy and drive. She was an adventurous traveler who loved the outdoors, especially boating and fishing. She was a lifelong volunteer in the community. Joan was a gifted gardener and a member of the Catawba Island Garden Club. Surviving are her daughters: Lynn (Bill Vance) Ahlers of Westlake, OH, Nancy (Phil) Taylor of St Louis, MO; dearest grandchildren: Elena N. Vance, Matthew W. Vance, Roger H. Taylor ; brothers: William E. (Irene) Wilt of Indiana, PA, Tim H. Wilt of Fairfield Township, PA. A reception celebrating Joan's life will be held September 3, 2014 from 1:00 4:00 pm at the Catawba Island Club and September 10, 2014 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at The Waterside Room, Emerald Necklace MArina, 1500 Scenic Park Dr., Lakewood, OH 44107. Interment will take place in Fort Palmer Cemetery in Ligonier, PA. at a later date.
