Joan Ryan, 76, of Marblehead, died Wednesday March 11, 2009 at Otterbein North Shore. She was born August 8, 1932 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Batcha) Boytim. Before her marriage, Joan worked at the Nickel Plate Railroad and was a Stewardess for American Airlines. While raising her family she obtained a degree in English from North Illinois University and then worked as a substitute teacher. She was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. Surviving are her son Peter Ryan of Seattle WA, daughter Suzanne Patsel of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren Michael and Christina Cobb of Roanoke, and a brother Jerome Boytim of Marblehead. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Martin. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, Marblehead where Panachida services will be at 3 pm. Friends may also call from 10 am Monday until the time of services at 11 at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Marblehead. The Rev. Basil Hutsko will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
