Joan Patricia Gilbert

May 11, 1937 — March 8, 2024

Joan Patricia Gilbert, 86 of Elmore, OH (and recently of the Genoa Retirement Village) died Friday, March 8, 2024 at St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo. Joan was born May 11, 1937 in Guelph, Ontario Canada the daughter of Ernest and Lillian (Cutting) Marsh. In 1947 she and her family moved to Elmore, OH. She then attended Harris-Elmore Elementary and graduated in 1954 from Harris-Elmore High School.


Following graduation Joan attended Davis Business College then was employed by Charles Cole, an Attorney in Toledo, and the Lucas Public Library until her marriage to Byron E. Gilbert on February 11, 1956 in St. Paul Trinity United Methodist Church, Elmore. Following their marriage, she was employed by the Weis Law Office in Elmore for over 50 years retiring in 2012.


Joan loved music and especially singing in the church choir for over 30 years. She and her husband loved to travel to California, Colorado, Florida, Canada, England and 3 trips to Maui, Hawaii. One of her favorite passions was keeping in contact with many friends including her wonderful classmates that she enjoyed coffee, lunch and emails with them over the years. She also enjoyed having coffee at “The Brew” in Elmore with family and many good friends.


Survivors include her sons Brett L. Gilbert of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Bradley J. Gilbert of Rossford; brother David S. (Karen) Marsh; a very special sister-in-law Pat Caris; sister-in-law Peggy Donley; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Byron, and brother John C. Marsh. The family gives a warm thank you to the very special staff at the Genoa Retirement Village for the caring treatment provided to Joan over the past 2 years.


Visitation will be Friday, March 15, 2024 from 11am-4pm at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elmore-Genoa Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 4pm on Friday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately by the family in Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be given to St. Paul Trinity United Methodist Church or the Humane Society of Ottawa County.
