Joan I. Layman

Joan I. Layman, 80 of Baton Rouge, LA died Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Grenada, MS. She was born May 5, 1940 in Oak Harbor, Ohio to Edgar and Irene (Ravas) Dewitz. She married Ralph L. Layman, who preceded her in death on March 14, 2021. Joan worked as a dietician and cook at The Lakeview Nursing home in Mantua, OH, the Broward General Hospital in Hollywood, FL, and the Shenandoah Country Club in Baton Rouge, LA. Joan enjoyed spending her life with Ralph traveling, visiting children and grandchildren, baking, gardening, and playing at the casinos and cards. Survivors include her children: Sandra (Ed Wagner) Layman of Tucson, AZ, Christopher (Gail) Layman of Sunrise, FL, John Layman of Spring Lake, NC, Brian (Lori) Layman of Saint Gabriel, LA, Michelle (Mark) Moore of Chesapeake, VA, and Kevin (Laura) Layman of Baton Rouge, LA; 14 grandchildren; 8 great- grandchildren; 7 sisters and 1 brother. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son Michael Ralph Layman, and her husband Ralph. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 24, 2021 from 11:00am – 1:30pm at the Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor Chapel. Public Graveside Services will begin at 2:00pm, on Wednesday, at the Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
