Joan C. Sutton

Joan C. Sutton, 86, of Catawba Island and formerly of Cleveland passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg. Joan was born August 10, 1937 in Cleveland the daughter of John and Stella (Wolansky) Malenich. She married Eugene A. Sutton on June 10, 1959. Joan was a teacher for 30 years, starting her career in Brooklyn, Ohio in 1959. She taught at Cleveland Elementary and North Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. Joan retired from teaching in 2001.

Joan was president of the Youngstown Symphony Guild for several years. She loved live concerts, traveling and dancing. She played the violin and guitar. Gene and Joan traveled the world, including Hungary, Italy, London, France, Belgium, Germany, South America, Egypt, Russia and Greece.

Joan volunteered at Magruder Hospital for 10 years.

She loved her family with all her heart. Joan was always happy and enjoyed life to the fullest.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years Gene; children: Kirsten (Perry) Quick of Matthews, NC, Gregory (Jen) Sutton of Dublin, OH, Jason (Stephanie) Sutton of Hudson; grandchildren: Devyn Pugh (Quick)

Beau Quick, Dylan Quick, Colette Sutton, Cesily Sutton, Luke Sutton, William Sutton, great grandchild John Pugh.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Rd. Lakeside-Marblehead, OH. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Joseph Szybka 10:30 am Friday, October 20, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay St. Marblehead, OH. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Pkwy, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
