Jim Robel, 81, of Lakeside, died Monday March 24, 2008 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky. He was born September 22, 1926 in Marblehead, the son of Steven and Mary (Chura) Robel. Jim retired from Scandura in 1988. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy. He was a member of the VFW Post 7572 in Marblehead where he served the office of quartermaster and was past Commander. Jim was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Tin Can Sailors. Surviving are his wife Darlene (Lowien) whom he married on June 25, 1949; son James (Theresa) Robel of Fairview Park; daughter Christine (James) Twarek of Aurora, Oh; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters Jean (Keith) Hodel of Sebastian, Fla and Pat (Bob) Below of Port Clinton and a brother Paul Robel of Bullhead City, Az. His parents and a sister Mary Ann Bodnar preceded him in death. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, Marblehead where the VFW will conduct services at 7 pm. Additional visitation will be held from 9 am Saturday until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead. Father Daniel Ring will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites conducted by the VFW Post 7572 of Marblehead. Memorials may be made to the Stein Hospice or the Lakeside or Marblehead Fire Departments.
