Jeffrey Glenn "DJ Jeff" Below, 45, of Sandusky, Ohio and formerly of Port Clinton, died Monday, May 5, 2014 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio. Jeff was born December 23, 1968 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, Ohio, to Richard and Carol (Chapman) Below. As a child, Jeff had many varied interests. He loved sports, playing baseball and basketball. He also enjoyed astronomy and purchased a telescope. Many summer nights he could be found outside gazing into the skies. He loved to share his knowledge and show family and friends the various constellations and planets. He also had a cactus collection. He liked to skateboard, and when he was 14 he joined the ranks of many kids growing up in the 80's and got a moped. Jeff graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1987. While there he played basketball for the Redskins. His athleticism was evident - standing only 6' tall he could slamdunk the basketball. Michael Jordan was at the height of his popularity during Jeff's high school years and was his idol. Whether it was wearing the first pair of Air Jordans to ever come out or talking the "lingo" of basketball - Jeff and his friends enjoyed that time in their lives very much. It was at this time that he began what would become his life-long career as a DJ. He and his high school friend, Jim Zibert, formed "Jam Session" and played for their friends and classmates at Port Clinton High School dances while still students there. After high school he worked other jobs, including bartending at Bell Mell Tavern with his brother Dick "The Captain" Below. Everyone there enjoyed the duo who came to be known as "The Killer B's" to their customers. Some of the best years of his life were spent with his brother/best friend together behind that bar. But music was Jeff's passion - it brought great joy, meaning and comfort to his life. Focusing on his DJ business, Jeff touched many people with his talents providing entertainment for so many. He played all over the area - including the islands. He watched countless couples begin their lives together playing for their wedding receptions. His talents helped many families celebrate milestones, playing graduation parties, birthdays, and anniversaries. He drew people to the local nightclubs with his dance music and great mixes. Playing all over the Northcoast area Jeff touched lives and brought people together with his music. As much as music was a part of his life - Jeff had a stronger love for only one thing - his family. Born to parents of two large Port Clinton families, the Belows and the Chapmans, Jeff was surrounded by the love of many close relatives. Family gatherings included lots of cousins, aunts and uncles as well as loving, wonderful grandparents. Celebrations filled with lots of family, food and laughter made him the happiest. The third child of four siblings, Jeff was loved by his siblings, Dick, Mary Jo, and Rachel. The Below house was always lively with much action. Neighborhood kids and friends loved coming over to the welcoming home Richard and Carol provided for the friends of their children. Jeff enjoyed the family vacations they took camping and to resorts where they would swim, play mini-golf and just spend time with his family. At 1990 Jeff became a father for the first time, welcoming a son, Jordan Richard Below, who is currently stationed with the U.S. Army in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He then welcomed a daughter, Breanna Jordan Below, who resides in Tiffin, Ohio. He loved his kids with all of his heart and strove to be the best dad he could for them. In 2011, Jeff met the love of his life, Elizabeth Sergeant. Together they built a life together and formed a very strong, loving bond. Engaged to be married, they looked forward to spending the rest of their lives together. Sadly, their time together was cut short way too soon by Jeff's passing. But the love they shared will live on forever in the wonderful memories of them together. In 2013, the family celebrated Richard and Carol's 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Sharing a house together for a week, Jeff was at his most happiest ever, just because he was with family. It is a memory everyone will hold tight forever. Jeff was preceded in death by his grand-parents, Frederick "Fritz" and Agnes Below and Dr. Glenn and Mary "Pauline" Chapman as well as uncles, Donald Below, James Below as well as his uncle Gordan Chapman with whom he had always had a strong connection. Left to mourn his loss but celebrate a life of love and cherished memories, Jeff leaves behind his parents Richard and Carol Below, son Jordan and his wife Ashley(Mooney) and granddaughter Carolynn, daughter Breanna Below, fiancee Elizabeth Sergeant and her children Brooke and Zach, brother Richard Below and his wife Holly (Kinsey), sister Mary Jo Scott and her husband Tim, Rachel Klimentov and her husband Ivo, nieces and nephews Janie Below and Avery Wettrich, Stone and Beau Scott, and Eva and Maya Klimentov and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Jeff was always a nightowl, so a celebration of his life will be held Friday, May 9th at Neidecker, LeVeck and Crosser Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton with visitation from 5:00 until a Celebration of Life service at 7:00pm with Charlie Burns officiating.
