Janice Ruth Garber died peacefully at her home after a lengthy illness and entered into God’s eternal paradise on November 21, 2022. Mrs. Garber was born February 5, 1937 to Oliver and Doris Keller in Port Clinton, Ohio. Mrs. Garber graduated from Salem- Oak Harbor Schools in 1955 and began work at the Erie Ordnance Depot. She married the love of her life, Grover, in 1957 whom she remained married to until his death in 2013.
Mrs. Garber had a son, Roland in 1959, a daughter, Kathy in 1962, and a son James in 1972. Her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren were her pride and joy. She never missed a school event, work event, any milestone, or any achievement. Janice was the consummate mother and homemaker who took pride in being the matriarch to her family. Her dedication to her family was evident throughout her life. She took care of her mother for years, sacrificing her own time, sweat, and tears so that she might live out her life at home. But her love didn’t stop there. Even when she couldn’t care for herself much anymore, she still was active in her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren’s lives as much as she could.
While her primary job was homemaker, she still wore many other hats including working at the WR Thomas store in Oak Harbor, taking in laundry from multiple neighbors, and was the RC Waters crossing guard on Locust Street for several years. She loved helping the kids cross the street safely and was responsible for saving at least two kids’ lives (probably several more) when they began to cross the busy street into oncoming traffic that failed to stop for the red light.
Janice was kind, strong, humble, gracious, loving, and believed in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She attended St. Pauls’ Lutheran Church on County Road 17 her entire life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Doris, her loving husband, Grover, and her beloved daughter, Kathy, along with many other relatives. Her surviving family include sons Roland and James, grandchildren Andrea (Curt Cochran), Andrew, Seth, Michael, Grace, Alivia, and Evan, Peyton, great-grandchildren Quinn and Conner, and sister Lynda.
