Jane Helen Somers

Jane Helen Somers, 82, of Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio, and formerly of Catawba Island, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio. She was born on October 11, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Wilmer and Helen (Kerwin)Schultz. On August 30, 1952 she married Duane Alyn Somers and he preceded her in death on October 5, 1996. Jane was a kindergarten teacher in Cleveland until her first child was born. She was also a Port Clinton Nursery School Teacher at Trinity United Methodist Church in Port Clinton. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Marblehead; member of the Guidelights CCL of Catawba Island; and had been a volunteer for WSOS Headstart. Survivors include her daughters: Rev. Janine (Ted) Dress, Marblehead; Elizabeth Wooden, Farmington Hills, Michigan; sons: Donald (Elena)Somers, Youngstown, Ohio; Alan (Heather) Somers, Maple Grove, Minnesota; grandchildren: Donald Somers, Allyson Somers, Carolyn Wooden, Thomas Wooden, Kerry Somers, Clare Somers; niece: Maryjane Kapela and nephew: James Percival. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son in-law, Christopher Wooden; and a sister: Arlene Percival. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 4-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10am at the funeral home with Pastor Christina L. Young, officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Marblehead; Otterbein North Shore Retirement Center, Lakeside; or to Stein Hospice, Sandusky.
