James W. Imke, Sr, 83, of Catawba Island, died Sunday May 9, 2010 at his residence. He was born May 24, 1926 in Seneca County, the son of Edward and Leona (Zehs) Imke. On June 29, 1952 he married Eleanor (Trudel) and she survives. James served in the U.S. Army from 1951-57 and during his service he was stationed in Salzburg, Austria for 3 years and at Fort Knox, and was a member of CONARC. James was a farmer, was employed at Bay Billets in Sandusky, and retired from Ford Motor Company in 1992. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, the Local 1215, American Legion Post #113, Port Clinton, and the Oak Harbor Conservation Club. His passion was hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He had a huge heart and took into his family numerous youngsters and treated them as his own. In addition to his wife, James is survived by sons John E. Imke of Marblehead, Daniel S. Imke of Maplewood, and Andrew Imke of Lacey, WA; five grandchildren, one great grandchild; and three sisters, Laura Rice of Milan, Ruth Tucker of South Hill, VA and Paulie Kowaleski of Castle Gate, CO. James was preceded in death by two sons, James W. Imke, Jr. and David M. Imke and two brothers George and John. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Wednesday at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Catawba Island, with the Rev. Dr. Kurt Borows officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Resurrection Lutheran Church of one's favorite charity.
