James P. Davis

January 22, 1949 — August 6, 2023

Captain James Percie Davis, 74, of Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio and formerly of Findlay, Ohio, passed away on August 6, 2023, after an extended battle with primary progressive multiple sclerosis along with other

ailments.

He was born on January 22, 1949, in Findlay to the late Deuane D. and Ledra M. (Karns) Davis. He is survived by his children, Brandon (Katie) of Chesterland, Danielle (Chris) Vallier of Colorado, Daniel (Kelly) of Missouri, and Chad (Melissa) of Florida; his brother Deuane (Cathie) Davis of Florida; and many grandchildren, nieces, and a nephew. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Gary Davis and Larry Davis; and his nephew, Ryan Davis.

Jim held many roles in his working life. He worked in farming, painted houses, made and sold candles, and was a member of several bands. He worked for many years at Whirlpool in Findlay, was a licensed real estate agent, a teacher at Owens Community College, a working musician, and US Coast Guard licensed Captain.

In relation to his working life, Jim loved being a “rock and roller” and a Captain most.

Jim “Percie” was self-taught on nearly every instrument. He played by ear and could typically pick up a song hearing it only a couple times. His primary instruments were bass guitar and acoustic guitar. In his early life, he played in several bands including The Wanderers, That Damn Band, and The Nite Watchmen. He toured the country as a musician in his early adult life. After having children, he shifted to playing just for fun. In 1993, as his children got older, he returned to working as a musician occasionally supporting

or participating in various local bands, in addition to his primary work, and he continued to play at home until he no longer could.

Fishing and boating was a lifelong passion for Jim and his family (Davis/Karns). The family has had multiple licensed captains and Lake Erie fishing guides over the years. Jim himself was a licensed US Coast Guard captain, and worked as a charter captain and fishing guide on Lake Erie, as well as a tour boat captain on Lake Erie and the Maumee River. Captain “Jimmy” captained vessels on Lake Erie until his MS prevented him from doing it.

For his entire life Jim loved warm, even hot, summer weather, Lake Erie, and the lake life around Port Clinton and Channel Grove. Above everything else, he was always the fun and peace loving, joke-telling,

rock-n-roller of his family and friends – always welcoming and creating fun and warmth around him.
