James P. Carpenter

James P. Carpenter, 85, of Catawba Island died Friday, June 30, 2017 at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, OH. He was born December 5, 1931 in Norton, KS the son of David and Edna W. (Ankenman) Carpenter. He married Marlene (Snyder) Challen on May 15, 1971 and she survives. Mr. Carpenter was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in the Korean War. He retired from Dana Corp. where he worked in Hagerstown, IN and Toledo. He and his wife owned and operated J & M Professional Framing in Marblehead. He was a commissioner of the Ottawa County Veterans Office for 10 years. He was a member and current vice-president of Resurrection Lutheran Church, Catawba Island, a life member of Stanley A. Jadwisiak Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7572, Marblehead, OH, life member of the D. A.V., member of Port Clinton American Legion, Oliver H. Perry Masonic Lodge 341 F & A.M., Worshipful Master of Hagerstown Lodge, member of Rainbow Dad in Hagerstown, founding member of Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society, and member of the Spiritual Life Committee at The Vineyard on Catawba. Surviving are his wife: Marlene; daughters: Patricia A. (Charles) Gaskey of Catawba Island, Nina (Richard) Boston of Richmond, IN; son: Paul Carpenter of Port Clinton, OH; grandchildren: Eric Stout of Port Clinton, Rebecca (Peter) Stout of San Rafel, CA, Meghan (John) Irwin of Port Clinton, Tj Bane (Heather) Stout of Richmond, IN, Natalee (Dallas) King of Williamsburg, IN; 9 great-grandchildren; brother: Edwin Carpenter of Economy, IN; sister: Lucille Crawford of Prescott, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law: Beverly Carpenter. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 2370 N. E. Catawba Rd. Port Clinton, OH where his body will lie in state Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:00 4:00 and 6:00 8:00 pm at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1124 Fulton St. Port Clinton, OH.
