James Leroy Cooper, 81, of Pickerington, OH passed away August 9, 2023 at Violet Springs Nursing Facility. He was born July 19, 1942 in Port Clinton, OH the son of Richard Ellis and Lois Jean (Swedersky) Cooper. Jim was retired from DFAS where he worked in IT. He was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Cleveland Browns and all Ohio sports. He enjoyed spending time at Lake Erie and visiting Marblehead. He loved Payday Candy Bars and a can of Diet Coke.
Surviving are his sons: Robert Elwood (Dianna) Cooper of Canal Winchester, OH, Richard Austin (Jena Lyndel) Cooper of Pataskala, OH; grandchildren: Heather (Donald) Jacobsen, William (Sarah) Cooper, Tiffany Cooper, Noah Cooper, Jonah Cooper; great-grandchildren: Ashley Bolzenius, McKenna Jacobsen, Donald Jacobsen, Jr.; brothers: Thomas (Barb) Cooper of Put-in-Bay, OH, Ron (Julie) Cooper of Hillard, OH, Bill (Kay) Cooper of Johnstown, OH and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his high school sweetheart and wife: Sandy Cooper; grandsons: Ethan Jacobsen and Shawn Bolzenius.
A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held 10:00 am Monday, August 14, 2023 at Grace Fellowship—The Chapel, 575 Diley Rd. Pickerington, OH 43147 with visitation starting at 9:00 am. Graveside services will be held 3:00 pm Monday, August 14, 2023 at Catawba Island Cemetery, 4997 E. Cemetery Rd. Port Clinton, OH. Memorial contributions may be given to Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society, P. O. Box 144 Marblehead, OH 43440.
