James "Jimmy" Wadsworth, age 77 and life time resident of Port Clinton, passed away on Monday, April 19th after a lengthy illness. James was born on April 27, 1932 to Lyell and Elizabeth (McKenna) Wadsworth in Port Clinton. He is survived by his dedicated wife of 55 years, Eunice (Locklear), and daughters Lisa (Jeff) Bruno Bumbera, Debbie Dubbert (Gene Hawkins), and Janet (Doug) Roberts, and grandchildren Elizabeth Van Buskirk, Brandon and Heather Dubbert, Sarah Bruno, Emily Roberts, Nicholas Wadsworth and James Roberts. He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Wadsworth in 2006. Jim was also close to his siblings Paul (Sonny), Mary (Sissy) Gardner, Lucille (Ninkie) Hoffman, Kathleen (Kathy) Perry, Tommy, and Davey Wadsworth. Sissy and Kathy survive him. James grew up on Lake Erie and came from a long line of fishermen. An attentive father, James took pride in his family and showered his grandchildren with adoration. His advanced skills in carpentry allowed him to especially show his love through the many special items he made through his craft. He enjoyed making gifts for friends and other family members as well and became particularly well known for his wooden rocking horses. An avid reader, James was very knowledgeable of war history, historical biographies, and enjoyed reading suspense novels. His other interests included golf for which he won several tournaments over the years, bowling and chess. His great sense of humor and casual manner endeared him to many. James served in the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force and received numerous commendations. From 1949 to 1953, James served his country in 437th Troop Carrier Wing and the 1600th Air Police Squadron. He met Eunice in Holyoke, Massachusetts near the end of his term and returned to Port Clinton where they were married and started a family and, Jim, his career in law enforcement. He was with the Port Clinton City Police Dept. and Ottawa County Sheriff's Departments as a Deputy Sheriff for 11 years. He then moved on to spend the balance of his career as a manager at US Gypsum, gaining great respect and providing advancements in the area of shipping and logistics. James was a supporter and member of the American Legion, the VFW, AMVETS and the Elks. Visitation will be held at Neidecker, LeVeck and Crosser Funeral Home in Port Clinton on Thursday, April 22nd at 2 p.m. followed by memorial services at 3 p.m. A reception will immediately follow at the American Legion on Sand Road in PC. James will be interred at a private ceremony at Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion.
