James L. Orman

James L. Orman, 82, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. He was born August 24, 1935 at home in Harris Township, the son of the late Emery & Clara (Hengvos) Orman. Jim married Carol Ann Domokos on September 12, 1959, and she survives. Jim was a graduate of Harris-Elmore High School, Class of 1953. After graduation, he worked at the former Matthews Boat Company, and Erie Army Depot. He served in the U.S. Army at the Presidio, San Francisco, with the 6th Army, 56th Machine Records Unit from 1955-1957. He was employed at the Dana Corporation in payroll, Joint Division, and Transmission as a customer service representative, Brennan Industrial Truck, inside sales and Food Town, retiring in 1997. Jim was a former member of Reformation Lutheran Church, Toledo, where he served as treasurer, a member of the church council, and was the Junior High Basketball Coach. He was also a former member of Zoar Lutheran Church, Perrysburg and its Finance Committee. Jim was very active in the Toledo Lutheran Bowling League, and after moving back to Oak Harbor, he was active with the 21st Century Bowling League as Team Captain. He was also a Thrivant Financial member. As a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, he was on the Mission & Ministry Team, and was a former member of the Men in Mission. He was also a team captain for CD deliveries for shut-ins. Jim loved to do crossword puzzles and was an avid reader, especially American History and family genealogy. Jim was a 24 year survivor of bladder cancer, and was diagnosed in 2014 with Parkinsons Disease, which was the cause of his death. Also surviving are his children, twin daughters,Vicki (Tom) Leaser, Oak Harbor, Valarie (Charlie) Ewing, East Palestine, OH: son, James A. "Jimmy" (Lisa Wyant) Orman, Woodville, OH; grandchildren, Emily (fianc Jason Cicconi) Ewing, Boardman, OH, Torri Robbins, Lakewood, CO, Andrew "Andy" (Kelly Luckey) Orman, Walbridge, OH, and Jonathan "Jon" (fianc Karen Brandstrup) Orman, Woodville, OH; brothers, David (Mary) Orman, Oak Harbor, and Robert (Marjori) Orman, Fairhaven, MA. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, Richard, Wilbur, and Gaylord Orman, and sisters, Lois Hartman and Helen Johnson. The family will receive friends from 2-8 P.M. Tuesday at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 301 N. Locust St., Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 122 W. Ottawa St., Oak Harbor, with the Rev. David Hendricks officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Following the services, a luncheon will be held at the church. Those planning on making a memorial contribution are asked to please consider St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Mid-County EMT Association, Stein Hospice, or the Disabled American Veterans.
