James F. Dunn, 75, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Elmwood Nursing Home, Green Springs, Ohio. He was born in Genoa, Ohio on November 25, 1935, a son of Kenneth & Besse (Kane) Dunn. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1953 and remained active until May of 1965, when he received a disability retirement after receiving an injury in a fall from a helicopter. Following his retirement, he was employed at the former Erie Army Depot as a security guard until the plant was closed. He transferred to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he worked at Aradmac. For a short time, Jim worked at ATAC in Warren, Michigan until his return to Ohio in 1967. He then started Dunns Excavating which he ran for many years until his retirement. On February 10, 1965, he married the former Linda K. Franck in Corpus Christi, Texas. Jim and Linda operated the former Dunns Nite Club in Woodville for several years. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor. Jim was an avid fan of The Ohio State University and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a member of American Legion Post #114, Oak Harbor, the Fleet Reserve Association, and was a lifetime member of the Marine Corps Association. He also was a member of the Eagles. Jim is survived by Linda, his wife of 46 years; daughters, Beth (Eric) Gunn, Toledo, Ohio, and Julie Dunn, Oak Harbor; brother, Ronald (Sharon) Dunn, Woodville; sisters, Betty Whipple, Ocala, Florida, Alice Dimoff, Woodville, granddaughters, Cortney Briscoe and Lauren Bailey, both of Toledo; sisters-in-law, Doris Dunn and Maxine Dunn, both of Genoa, Jeanine Dunn, Rossford, Ohio, and Linda Dunn, Yuma, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert, George, and Jack Dunn; and his sister, Faye OConnor. Family and friends are invited to call from 12-9 P.M. Wednesday at Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, with the Revs. Keith A. Hunsinger and David J. Tinker officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, with graveside military honors provided by American Legion Post #114 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8732.
