James Edward Lannen, 81, of Port Clinton, died Tuesday April 22, 2008 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton. He was born May 13, 1926 in Fostoria, the son of Albina and Joseph Lannen. Jim was a graduate of St. Wendelin High School in 1944. He served in the US Navy during WWII from 1944-46. He was employed with the Commercial Bank and Savings Co in Fostoria from 1944-55. He joined the American Bank in Port Clinton as an assistant cashier in 1955 and was promoted to Executive Vice President in 1974. Jim was elected President and Chief Executive Officer of Society Bank in 1975. In 1980, he was named President and Chief Executive Officer of the Fremont Savings Bank (a Society affiliate) and held both positions. In 1983, Jim was appointed President of Society Bank of Northwest Ohio, retiring in 1986. Jim was a member and past president of: Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce, Port Clinton Lions Club, Colonial Club, Ottawa-Sandusky County Bankers Assn, Past Grand Knight of the Port Clinton Knights of Columbus and was president of the Home Association. He was a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge of Port Clinton. Jim served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Terra Tech College from 1978-1984. Jim was a court investigator for guardianship cases for the Ottawa County Probate Court from 1995-2002. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and served as treasurer of the IC school endowment fund for many years and as a hospitality minister. Jim was a former member of the Port Clinton Yacht Club, Catawba Island Club and the Christian Men's Prayer Breakfast group. In June 2004, Jim was presented with the Melvyn Jones award from the Port Clinton Lions Club, the highest honor in Lionism. His hobbies included playing cards and golfing and he was a member of the Oak Harbor Senior Golf League for many years. Surviving are his wife Rosemary (Brickner) whom he married on June 7, 1947; son Steven James Lannen of Port Clinton and a brother Richard Lannen of Fostoria. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton. Prayer services will begin at 10 am Friday at the funeral home followed by a 10:30 Mass of Christian Burial at the Immaculate Conception Church. Fr. John Missler will officiate. Burial will follow in Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made for Mass Intentions, the Port Clinton Knights of Columbus or the Port Clinton Lions Club.
