James "Jim" Dages, 72, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 under the care of Memorial Hospice. He was born in Port Clinton, Ohio on October 13, 1940, a son of Harold & Delores (Ritter) Dages. Jim was a law enforcement officer for many years, serving with the Gibsonburg Police Department and the Danbury Township Police Department. Working for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Jim was the chief ranger at East Harbor State Park. He also worked as a security guard and was a police academy instructor. From 1989-1994, Jim was the owner and operator of the Mid County Firearms Store near Oak Harbor. An avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed fly tying and tending his fruit trees. On April 3, 1981, he married his wife, Karen, and she survives. Also surviving is his mother, Delores Dages; his children, James, Jr. (Susan), Christy (Rick); and Shawn (Loren); brother, George (Gerri); sisters, Marge (Lyn), and Janice; grandchildren, Amber, James III, Jessie, Jamie, Danielle, Whitney; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Abby. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Harold; children, Dean and Carolyn; and his sister, Fran. Friends may call from 3-7 P.M. Wednesday at Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, where a celebration of Jim's life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday. Rev. David A. Voll will officiate, and interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Jim would want everyone to be comfortable, so casual attire is requested.
