James Alan "Jim" Chapman

James Alan "Jim" Chapman, 69, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at his residence. He was born on September 19, 1948 in Port Clinton, a son of the late Glenn and Pauline (Smith) Chapman. He married Carla van de Vrande on June 19, 1970 and she survives. Jim was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving our country during the Vietnam War. He was a Mail Handler for the United States Postal Service in Toledo, Ohio for over 30 years until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Port Clinton. He loved boating and fishing on Lake Erie. An avid traveler, he enjoyed going on cruises and taking trips to Las Vegas. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his buddies he met daily at the Jefferson Street Canopy. Survivors include his wife, Carla; sisters, Carol (Richard, deceased) Below and Mary (Gary, deceased) Below, both of Port Clinton; brother, William "Bill" (Sue) Chapman, Fremont, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Karen van de Vrande, Sun City Center, Florida and Priscilla Chapman, Lima, Ohio; nieces and nephews; as well as his feline companions, Owen, Teddy, Tucker, Scout and Scooter. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Roland, Richard, and Gordon Chapman. Visitation will be held at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, Ohio, on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 5-6 pm.
