Jack D. Ihde

Jack DeVere Ihde, 83 of Oak Harbor, OH passed away peacefully Saturday, May 06, 2017 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born July 11, 1933 in Wonewoc, WI to the late John H. and Ella E. (Rowin) Ihde. He attended East High School in Madison, WI, but left school and joined the United States Navy where he was aboard the USS Siboney during the Korean War. He obtained his High School Diploma thru the Navy in 1954. On September 5, 1953 he married the former Donna L. Mehlow and she survives. Following the Navy, Jack was employed at Erie Army Depot in Port Clinton from 1955 1965. From there he was employed at Grable Manufacturing in Tiffin, OH from 1965 1969 before working at Hayes Albion Company (also in Tiffin) from 1969 1981. Following this, he was employed by the Benton- Carroll- Salem School District as a bus mechanic where he retired in 1995. Jack was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor where he was a Deacon for 2 years and a trustee for many years. Jack was also a member of American Legion Post #114, Oak Harbor where he was an active member of the Cemetery Honor Guard. Other memberships include: the Oak Harbor Lions Club, Ohio Bus Mechanics Association, Sandusky Bow Benders, Ohio Bow Association and served as a Board Member for the Oak Harbor Public Library. He was an Ohio High School certified Track & Cross Country Official from 1982 1998 and enjoyed golfing, bow hunting, watching sporting events, and officiating Track. Survivors include his wife of 63 years Donna L. Ihde of Oak Harbor, children: Gregory Jack (Sally) Ihde of Henderson, NV, Mark David (Brenda) Ihde of Oak Harbor, and Kathy Jo Moutoux (Scott Buente) of Killbuck, OH; grandchildren: Nick, Jacob, Keri, Lauren, Jack, Alexie, Kevin, and Kyle; great- grandchildren: Harley, Weston, Everleigh, Madeline, Emery, Griffon, and Eliott. He was preceded in death by his sister Kay Chamberlain. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-8pm at the Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 11am Thursday, May 11, 2017 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor with the Rev. David A. Voll officiating. Burial will be in Salem Twp. Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor with Military Honors to be provided by American Legion Post #114 and V.F.W. Post #8732.
