Jack Claar

Jack Claar, 78, of Gibsonburg, Ohio, and formerly of Elmore, Ohio, died Friday, November 8, 2013. He was born in Scott Township, Sandusky County on July 31, 1935, the son of Clarence & Juanita M. (Orth) Claar. Jack was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Elmore, and was a past president of the congregation. He was also active in the American Red Cross, and worked for a month along the gulf coast following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Jack enjoyed gardening, fishing, and watching the races at the Fremont and Attica tracks. He was an instrument repairman at the former Brush Wellman, Inc., retiring in 1997. Jack was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. On December 3, 1954, Jack married the former Marilyn J. Hein, and she preceded him on November 11, 2004. He is survived by his children, Rick Claar, Elmore, Don (Sarah) Claar, Northwood, Ohio, and Peggy Cly, Gibsonburg, Ohio; sister, Mary Ann Hein, Marblehead, Ohio, and 7 nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Claar; half sister, Juanita; and brother-in-law, Gail J. Hein. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elmore-Genoa Chapel, 19550 West State Route 51, where friends may call after 9:00 A.M. Pastor John W. Bock will officiate, and interment will be in Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
