Irene M. Katko

Irene M. Katko, 82 of Elmore, OH died Monday, January 21, 2013 at University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago, ILL. She was born March 24, 1930 in Youngstown, OH to the late Frank and Mary Legany. She was a 1948 graduate of Chaney High School in Youngstown. On December 26, 1955 she married Herb Katko and he survives. Irene worked as a transcriptionist for Northside Hospital in Youngstown, and then took employment at Dollar Bank also in Youngstown, before moving to Elmore where she worked at the former Brush Wellman Company. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ where she would often donate rugs for raffle for church bazaars. She enjoyed crafting and volunteered over 15 years as an election official in Elmore. Survivors include her husband of 57 years Herb of Elmore, OH; sons: Allan (Anna) Katko of Elmore, OH and Dr. Jeffery (Tamara) Katko of Perrysburg, OH; son- in- law Burt Wagner of Waterville, OH; grandchildren: Justin, Kelly, Zachary, Emily, Sydney, Cameron, Amber, Andrew, and Alex; great- grandchildren Karissa, Madden, and Nola; sisters: Emma and Olga Hudak both of Austintown, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Alice Wagner in 2006 and sister Margaret Poncsak. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8pm at the Crosser Funeral Home, Elmore- Genoa Chapel with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Funeral Services will begin at 11am Friday, January 25, 2013 at St. John United Church of Christ with the Rev. John Bock officiating. Burial will be in Harris- Elmore Union Cemetery, Elmore, OH.
