Hilda H. Smith

Hilda H. Smith, 90, of Port Clinton, and formerly of the New London area, died Friday, July 11, 2008 at the home of her daughter Karen, with son Vincent, sister Frieda, and other family members by her side. She was born on July 20, 1917 in Port Clinton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Christian and Helena (Petersen) Christiansen. In August 1946 she married Ambrose Smith and he preceded her in death in 2000. Hilda was a homemaker and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in New London. Her specialties included making apple pies and mowing lawns. Survivors include her daughters: Karen (Mark) Segaard, Port Clinton, OH and Kathleen (Vern) Hicks, Wakeman, OH; son: Vincent (Kitty) Smith, Wakeman, OH; step-daughters: Ann (Roger) Weaver, Ontario, OH and Yvonne Westover, New London, OH; step-son: Robert (Nancy) Smith, Ashland, OH; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; sister: Frieda Deal, Genoa, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Ambrose, brothers: Hans, August, Christie, and sisters: Susan, Marie, Matilda, and Jessie. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 14, 2008 from 9:00 10:00 AM at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, where funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM with Pastor David Gowen officiating. Additional visitation will be held from 12:00 1:00 PM at the Clarksfield United Methodist Church, 5151 Zenobia Road, Wakeman, OH until funeral services at 1:00 PM, with Reverend Patty Jo Sheldon officiating. Burial will follow in Clarksfield United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wakeman, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice.
