Henry MacDonald, Jr., 86, of Port Clinton and formerly of Cranston, Rhode Island, passed away Saturday April 14, 2007 at Riverview Health Care Campus in Oak Harbor following a lengthy illness. He was born May 23, 1920 in Aberdeen, Scotland, the son of Henry and Isabelle (Cumming) MacDonald, Sr... On July 31, 1948 at St. Stephen Episcopal Church in Providence, RI, he married Rose (Hanna) MacDonald and she preceded him in death on February 6, 1999. Mr. MacDonald was a transportation manager, retiring from Scandura, Inc. in 1990. Prior to Scandura, he worked for U.S. Rubber/Uniroyal in Providence, RI from 1939 to 1973, and in Port Clinton from 1973 to 1986. He was a graduate of the Bryant College of Business Administration, and LaSalle Extension University. Mr. MacDonald was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. he was stationed with the 56th Quarter Master Supply Corps in both the Mediterranean and Pacific Theatres. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Ribbon; European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (Rome Arno) and ribbon, with one Battle Star; the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and Ribbon; the WWII Victory Medal and Ribbon; the American Defense Service Medal and Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. Henry was a member and past president of the Port Clinton Rotary Club; member and past president of the Sandusky Traffic Club; member and past president of the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity of Rhode Island; and a past member of the Catawba Island Club. He was a sports enthusiast throughout his life, culminating with winning the State Shot Put Championship in the Senior Olympics at the age of 70. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law James B. and Brenda MacDonald of Port Clinton; granddaughter Megan MacDonald-Barna; two great grandchildren, Annabelle and Brik Barna all of Port Clinton, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many beloved friends. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 Tuesday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton where funeral services will be held at 11 A.M.. Wednesday. The Rev. Ralph Shibler will officiate, and interment will follow in Catawba Island Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be provided by the U. S. Army funeral detail. Memorial contributions may be made to the Riverview Health Care Campus, St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
