Henry Bernhard Kihlken

Henry Bernhard Kihlken, 77, of Port Clinton, OH died Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, OH. He was born September 25, 1939 in Sandusky, Ohio, the son of Henry B. and Lura (Campbell) Kihlken. He graduated from Danbury High School in 1957 and attended Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Henry was an accomplished composer and arranger, freelance music editor and arranger, and church organist. He was the organist at St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, Ohio since 1997 and had previously been an organist at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Danbury, United Methodist Church of Lakeside, Trinity Methodist Church of Sandusky, First Presbyterian Church of Sandusky, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Sandusky, and a substitute organist at Reformed Temple Oheb Shalom of Sandusky. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, American Guild of Organists, Royal School of Church Music, and the Church Music Association of America. Henry was the recipient of many awards and commissions and composed hundreds of sacred and secular works, both published and unpublished. Surviving are two sisters, Mary Barcley and Ann (Kovach) Schmidt, both of Port Clinton, along with a number of cousins. Henry was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 from 10:30 am until Funeral Services at 11 am at St. John Lutheran Church, 207 Adams Street, Port Clinton, Ohio with Rev. Dr. James Lehman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Danbury Township.
