Helen Veverka, 89, of Marblehead, Ohio died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, Ohio. She was born on June 21, 1920 in Marblehead, the daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Drusbacky) Gdovicak. On September 18, 1943 at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Marblehead, she married Frank "Sam" Veverka and he preceded her in death on July 13, 1985. Helen was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead. She loved to play cards and putting jigsaw puzzles together. She was an avid sports fan of football, basketball and baseball. Survivors include her daughter: Mary Ann (David, Sr.) Demeter, of Marblehead; grandson: David (Lisa) Demeter, Jr., of Catawba Island; great grandsons: Austin and Kyle Demeter; sister: Anne Luska, of Parma; and brother: Paul Gdovicak, of Oak Harbor. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Denis Veverka; sister: Betty Twarek and brothers: Peter, John, Mike, and Joseph Gdovicak. Per Helen's request, there will be no visitation. Burial will be private at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Marblehead. Family and friends are invited to a memorial mass to celebrate her life on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead with Reverend Daniel J. Ring, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marblehead Fire Department.
