Helen Jones Elarton

Helen Fern Elarton (Mitchell-Jones), 102 years young, of Lakeside, O died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Riverview, Oak Harbor , under the care of Stein Hospice. She was born on September 30, 1906 at home in Sandusky county, the daughter of the late Carl and Bessie (Pence) Mitchell. She married Forrest Jones on December 1, 1928 and they lived in Kansas , Ohio . Helen was first and foremost a homemaker, wife and mother. She was a long time member of the Burgoon United Methodist Church . After Forrest's death in 1959, she went to work for Joseph's in Fremont . Later she married Oval Elarton on April 7, 1962. She helped farm and was active in the Farm Bureau. After Oval passed she became a member and a Deacon in the Fostoria Presbyterian Church, volunteered many hours at the Fostoria City Hospital , and served on the Election Board of Wood County. In 1997 she became a resident of Otterbein North Shore and a member of the Lakeside United Methodist Church . She served both communities with love. Other loved ones preceding her in death: daughter Jeanne Claire Lanning, grandson Robert (Rob) J. Lanning, sisters Bernice Weissinger, Rosetta Myers, brother Roy Mitchell. Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Leigh (Tom) Wade and Sue A. (Cliff) Holman both of Port Clinton, step-daughter Yvonne Elarton (Dick) Weissinger of Fostoria, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, August 7, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Lakeside United Methodist Church , 450 Central Avenue, Lakeside, Ohio , with Rev. Jerry Phelps officiating. A private burial will follow in Kansas Cemetery . Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice; Lakeside United Methodist Church ; or Donor's choice.
