Helen J. (Hardy) Weaver, 91, of Elmore, OH, died Sunday, January 1, 2006 at the Lutheran Home, Toledo where she had lived for the past few years. She was born in Toledo on August 5, 1914, a daughter of Stephen & Julia (Gillette) Hardy. Helen was a 1932 graduate of Notre Dame Academy. On August 1, 1934, she married Fred A. Hasselkus in Bowling Green, OH, and he preceded her in death on May 29, 1968. She graduated as an LPN from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in 1962, and worked at St. Charles Hospital for many years. Helen also worked at the Elmore Medical Center for Drs. Ridenour, Kieffer, & Narra. After she retired from nursing, she volunteered at St. Charles, where she was known as the “cookie lady”, as she made cookies and took them to various departments on the days that she volunteered. Helen also was a Bloodmobile volunteer in Elmore and the surrounding area. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Genoa, and the Rosary & Altar Society of the church; the former St. Bernadette Study Club; the Elmore Literary Club; the Elmore American Legion Auxiliary; the Elmore Kiwanis Club; and the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her children, Mary Lou Kruse, Elmore, Judy (Joe) Oberski, Lambertville, MI, Fred J. (Judi) Hasselkus, Mission Viejo, CA; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert (Sue) Hardy, Toledo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Fred Hasselkus, Lester Deacon, and George Weaver; stepson Howard Hasselkus, son-in-law, Gary Kruse, sisters Armella, Margaret, Dorothy, and Catherine. The family will receive friends from 2-9 P.M. Thursday at the Crosser Funeral Home, Elmore, where a Vigil Service will be held at 8:30 P.M. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Genoa, with the Rev. James E. Peiffer officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Elmore.
