Hayes I. Webb of Elmore, Ohio died May 11, 2010 at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor, Ohio. Hayes was born September 3, 1919 to Harlow C. and /Helen F. (Nicklett) Webb in south Toledo. He was a 1938 graduate of Waite High School. He married Margaret H. Tabbert on April 19, 1952. They have 3 children, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Hayes was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Elmore and was a deacon and trustee of the church council. He served in the United States Coast Guard in during WWII, was a member of Masonic Lodge #351 F. & A.M. and the American Legion Post #279 in Elmore. Hayes' personality made for a great salesman. He owned Webb Hardware on East Broadway in Toledo, and sold for Goodyear, Kuhlman Tire, Mayberry Tire and Crozier Construction. Hayes also repaired player pianos for over 30 years. He was a musician and a poet, often writing poems for his bride, Margaret. He was well known by his family and friends for his great sense of humor and was also a gifted story teller. Hayes was devoted to his wife and truly was the patriarch of his family. He instilled his family with the values of love, faith, loyalty, education, and hard work. He enjoyed entertaining and sharing his home with family and friends. Hayes was admired and loved by many. He will be greatly missed and remembered fondly. Hayes is survived by his wife, Margaret, daughters, Julie (Kenneth) Leist, Laurel Webb, and son Hayes C. (Mai Thi) Webb, and grandchildren, Kendra (Chad) German, Aaron Leist and Charles N. Webb, and great-grandson, Trace German. He is preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Harlow Webb, sisters Lois Cowell, Virginia Jones and Marilyn Barker and his brother, Jack Webb. Memorial services will be held at St John's UCC in Elmore on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 11:00 am. The family will receive guests at the church at 10:00 am. Rev. William Bartholomew will be officiating. A bereavement luncheon will be served immediately following the memorial service. Private graveside services will be held at Elliston Cemetery. For those wishing to donate in Hayes' memory, the family suggest considering St. John UCC, Waite High School Alumni Scholarship Fund or the Harris-Elmore EMS. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the outstanding staff at Riverview Healthcare Campus for their loving care.
