Gertrude Scotty Friedl

Gertrude "Scotty" Cecelia (Kozak) Murany Friedl, 93, of Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio died August 23, 2008 at Otterbein North Shore Retirement Community, Lakeside-Marblehead. She was born on November 14, 1914 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Joseph and Louisa (Kocab) Kozak. She married Andy Murany on August 30, 1940 and he preceded her in death on January 2, 1959. Later she married Louis G. Friedl on June 18, 1966 and he preceded her in death in January 1983. Gertrude grew up in Cleveland, raised her family in Avon Lake and was most recently of Marblehead Ohio since 2004.She was one of the founding members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Avon Lake where she was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society. Since moving to Marblehead, she has been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interests pursued her during her lifetime: bowling, girl scout leader, gardening and canning and freezing the bounty there of, flower arranging, baking, church activities, music- enjoyed playing the piano, for many years she studied and enjoyed graphoanalysis, her family and grandchildren. She worked as an election pole worker for over 24 years and delivered meals on wheels. Gertrude had a quick sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke. She loved music of all kinds and enjoyed dancing to it. She could hear a tune and then pick it out on the piano. She took great pride and joy in her family. Survivors include her daughter: Mary Louise (Roy) Triska, of Port Clinton; sons: Andy (Karen) Murany, of Farmington Hills, Michigan and David (Rachel) Murany, of El Cajon, California; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; step daughter: Barbara (Ed) Holley, of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; step sons: Louis (Barb) Friedl, of Spring, Texas; Ray (Sue) Friedl, of Conway, South Carolina; Ronald (Barb) Friedl, of Fountain City, South Carolina; eight step grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, second husband, infant daughter: Gertrude Murany; brothers: George, Joseph, Victor Kozak and sister: Mary Kozak. Visitation will be held at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Peninsula Chapel on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 from 9-11 am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am, celebrated by Reverend Daniel J. Ring. Burial and graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 27 at 1:00 PM at Calvary Cemetery, 555 N. Ridge Road W., Lorain, Ohio. with Reverend Daniel J. Ring officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Stein Hospice.
