Gertrude (Bass) (Cutcher) (Zippay) Birchfield, 83, of Port Clinton, OH, died Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Stein Hospice, Sandusky, OH. She was born Sept. 27, 1923 in Port Clinton, a daughter of the late Harley & Nellie (Zess) Bass. She was a homemaker and member of the Port Clinton Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 2295. Surviving are her 12 children, daughters: Virginia (George) of Oak Hill, OH, Patricia of Kirkland, WA, Barbara (Ron) of Fort Wayne, IN, Martha of Graytown, Bonnie (Melvin) of Oak Hill, OH, Sonya (Charlie) of Phoenix, AZ; sons: Cletus, Jr. (Jedie) of Sandusky, Larry of Jefferson, TX, James of Supeior, AZ, Timothy (Luanne) of Port Clinton, David (Elaine) of Oregon, OH, Joseph (Marnie) of Sandusky; 39 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harley & Nellie (Zess) Bass; brother: Harley, Jr; sister: Martha and husband: Eugene Birchfield. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Tuesday and 9-11 A.M. Wednesday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 3, 2007 the funeral home with the Rev. James Lehman officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice.
