Geraldine M. Slates

Geraldine M. Slates, 90 of Elmore, OH, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017. She was born on November 23, 1927 in Lindsey, OH, a daughter of O. Orville & Bess (Richards) Miller. Geraldine was a 1945 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. She was an employee of the Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service, Oak Harbor, for 28 years, retiring in 1992. A member of St. Paul-Trinity United Methodist Church, Elmore, Geraldine was the financial secretary for many years and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She worked extensively researching her familys genealogy, and also volunteered with genealogy research at the Harris-Elmore Public Library. On February 5, 1947, she married Melvin L. Slates, and he preceded her in death on June 6, 2003. Surviving are her children, David (Diana) Slates, Clarkston, MI, Sharon (John) Haw, Davison, MI, Daniel (Kathy) Slates, Elmore, and Mark (Deborah) Slates, Monclova, OH; grandchildren, Mike Slates, Jeffrey Haw, Kristina Scobie, Julia Haw, Jordan, Deck, Kevin Slates, and Kori Wargacki, and 8 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Pauline Lamale, and sisters-in-law, Helen Miller, and Eileen Miller, all of Fremont. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Miller, and Wendell Miller, and brother-in-law, Donald Lamale. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elmore-Genoa Chapel, 19550 W. S.R. 51, where friends may call after 9:00 A.M. Thursday.
