Gerald M. "Jerry" Hansen

May 15, 1938 — August 14, 2013

Gerald M. "Jerry" Hansen, "Mayor of Fort Myers", beloved husband, best father, best grandfather, of Marblehead, Ohio and Fort Myers Beach, Florida, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Marblehead on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. He was born on May 15, 1938 in Toledo Ohio, the son of the late Melvin and Ruth (Huebner) Hansen. On September 21, 1963 at St. Agnes Church in Toledo, he married Louise "Betty" Mattimoe and she survives. He attended Arlington grade school, and was a 1956 graduate of Libbey High School in Toledo and a 1961 graduate of the University of Toledo. He worked at Libbey Glass, Owens-Illinois, and Georgia Pacific as a packaging engineer, retiring in 1996. He served in the United States Army and Air Force Reserves. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Toledo, Ohio; member of the American Legion Post in Sandusky, Ohio; member of the Fremont Eagles; member of the Marblehead VFW Post #7572; member of the Maumee Elks as well as the Port Clinton Elks Lodge #1718; member of the Loyal Order of the Moose; as well as a member of the Society of Engineers. He lived in Maumee, Ohio for 32 years and vacationed in Marblehead since 1947, where he and Betty finally moved into their summer home in 1996. Survivors include his wife: Betty; daughter: Jill E. Lawrence (Hansen); grandson: Gerald Patrick Lawrence; and son-in-law: Jack Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his son: Gerald M. Hansen II who was killed in an accident in 1993. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2013 from noon until 4pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio. Immediately following visitation, family and friends are invited over to Betty's house in Marblehead for a celebration of Jerry's life, gathering. Interment will be next to his son in Clemons Cemetery, Marblehead. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the scholarship fund at Rossford Exempted School District in Rossford, Ohio.
