Gerald A. Hallier, 85, of Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio died Friday, April 24, 2009 at his son's residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 4, 1923 in Marblehead, the son of the late Charles and Bertha (Oper) Hallier. On December 24, 1954 he married Marilyn Anderson and she preceded him in death on April 19, 1984. Gerald was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during World War II. He worked at Celotex in Port Clinton for 45 years until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Danbury Twp; member of VFW Post #7572, Marblehead; member of the AMVETS #17, Sandusky; and a member of the Fremont Pigeon Club. His hobbies included racing pigeons; flower and vegetable gardening; bird watching, and most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his sons: Charles (Melanie) Hallier; Paul (Susie) Hallier; Mike (Dawn) Hallier, all of Marblehead; daughter: Beth (John) Prentice, of Port Clinton; grandchildren: Randy Walton, Chantel Walton, Caitlyn Prentice, Courtney Prentice, Michaela and Peyton Hallier, Bridget and Bailey Calhoun; and his sister: Audrey (Lloyd) Dayton, of Marblehead. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and an infant brother. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 541 Church Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, where additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Reverend Lisa Peterson will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery where members of VFW Post #7572, Marblehead will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice, Lakeside or Marblehead Fire Departments.
