George R. Thompson, 68 of Lindsey, OH died Sunday, December 3, 2023 at his home under Hospice Care with his family by his side. He was born February 28, 1955 in Tiffin, OH to Donald J. and Shirley M. (Hepler) Thompson. He was a 1973 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. On December 31, 1993 he married Nadine (Weirich) and she survives. George worked for Union Carbide and Eveready Battery Company in Fremont for 25 years until its closing in 1997, then retired from Clyde Tool & Die in 2022. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor.
Through the years George loved building, working on, and racing anything with a motor, including go carts, motorcycles, three-wheelers, remote-control cars, stock cars and sprint cars. He enjoyed his many years spent at the racetrack and sharing the stories with his family and friends. He treasured going camping with and spending quality time with his wife as often as possible. George was most proud of his family and the time they spent together, especially eating ice cream and causing trouble with his granddaughters who he lovingly referred to as “Grandpa's Girls.” To put it simply, he loved his life.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Nadine of Lindsey, OH; children: Anthony “AJ” (Amber) Marquis of Martin, OH, Jonathan “Jon” (Tiffany) Marquis of Genoa, OH, and Catherine “Cat” (James) Middendorf of Cincinnati, OH; mother Shirley Thompson of Fremont, OH; grandchildren: Quinn, Huxleigh, Maddison, & Melanie; siblings: James (Sharon) Thompson, Wanda (Larry) Perkins, and Lori (Mark) Haaser. He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8pm with the family present 2-4 & 6-8pm at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor Chapel. Services will begin at 11am on Monday, December 11, 2023 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor with the Rev. Darryl Hamm officiating and where the family will receive friends beginning at 10am at the Church. Burial will occur at a later date in LaCarpe Cemetery, Erie Township.
