George M. Danchisen

George M. Danchisen, 76, of Marblehead died Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky. He was born Feb. 26, 1942, in Marblehead, the son of George J. and Helen T. (Tadrack) Danchisen. He married Mary M. Brown Oct. 30, 1971, and she survives. George is a life-long member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Marblehead. George graduated from Danbury High School in 1960 and Heidelberg University in 1964 with a degree in education. Following college, he taught junior high math at Green Springs and Norwalk. In 1970, George joined the family business with his father in Marblehead at the Danchisen Marathon, formally Sohio. He operated the service /gas station until his death. He was an elected trustee on Marblehead Board of Public Affairs (water department) since January 2000. George enjoyed volunteering; for many years he assisted the church with weekly bingo, as well as at the Mad River & Nickel Plate Railroad Museum in Bellevue. He was an avid train "buff", archivist, and historian. He saved many records from the Lakeside-Marblehead Railroad Depot which were used to help write a book about the Lakeside and Marblehead railroad. Surviving are his wife, Mary; children, Theresa (Brian) Bahm of Marblehead, George A. Danchisen of Catawba Island, Christine (Kevin) Treski of Chicago; grandchildren, Samantha Marez, Gilbert Marez, Elliana Danchisen; step-grandchildren, Brandon Bahm and Tyler Bahm. Divine Liturgy will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, at St. Marys Byzantine Catholic Church, 506 E. Main St. Marblehead where his body will lie in state for one hour prior to the liturgy. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday March 5, at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Rd. Marblehead. Panachida services will be 7 p.m. Monday evening in the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Marys Byzantine Cemetery, Marblehead. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Marys Byzantine Catholic Church, Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum, or Stein Hospice. Condolences may be shared with the family at neideckerleveckcrosser.com.
