George E. Bly

George E. Bly, 96, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Monday, April 10, 2017. He was born on March 21, 1921 in West Unity, Ohio, the son of the late Dewey and Georgia (Harrison) Bly. On June 21, 1942 he married Ruth Von Eitzen and she preceded him in death on December 31, 2015. George was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in the 3rd Infantry Division during World War II. He worked as the store room Supervisor at Ohio Edison in Sandusky, Ohio until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Port Clinton as well as a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. He was also known as the neighborhood handyman, with the reputation of "Mr. Bly can fix anything". During his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his sons, Richard Bly, Youngstown, Ohio and John (Debbi) Bly, Owings, Maryland; daughter, Georgia (Wayne) Sorensen, Woodbridge, New Jersey, granddaughter, Stephanie (Chris) Swann, great-granddaughter, Charlotte Swann, and sister, Laura Collum, Toledo, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brothers, Earl and Paul Bly. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 10 am until funeral services at 11 am at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. Pastor Ted Austin will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorial contributions may be made to Wreaths Across America, 8444 W.
