George C. Briggs

George C. Briggs, 85 of Oak Harbor, OH died Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo following a brief illness. He was born December 25, 1938 to Garnet (Allison) and her husband George English in Woodsfield, OH. George served in the United States Navy from 1956 – 1959 making the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer. On August 16, 1958 he married the former Sue Hunt, and she survives. He retired from the former GTE Phone Company in 1994, working in Oak Harbor, Port Clinton, and Norwalk. He was a member of Oak Harbor United Methodist Church, Oak Harbor and the Oak Harbor Rotary. George had a passion for playing the Lottery. You would always find him buying tickets everywhere in Ohio and the surrounding areas.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Sue of Oak Harbor, OH; children: George Briggs Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, Terry (Neila) Briggs of Pistton, PA, and Liz (Joel) Marquart of Oak Harbor, OH; grandchildren: Jennifer Perez, Christine Briggs, Terry Briggs Jr, and Kelsey Marquart; sister Sandra Koch of Port Clinton, OH and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Garnet English; brothers Tom and Dale English; and sister Patty Neagos.

Funeral Services will begin at noon on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Oak Harbor United Methodist Church, 360 E. Ottawa St., Oak Harbor, where the family will receive friends beginning at 11am at the Church. Burial will be in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor where he will receive military honors.
