Gaylord L. Engler

Gaylord L. Engler, 92, of Port Clinton, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center, Port Clinton. He was born on June 4, 1916 in Oak Harbor, the son of Alvin and Myra (Sorg) Engler. He married Dorothy Faust on July 11, 1943 and she survives. Gaylord worked for the trucking industry for over 50 years, retiring in 1986. He also worked with Governor Rhodes in helping to get the Erie Industrial Park started after the Erie Ordinance Depot in Port Clinton closed. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton; the Ottawa County Improvement Corporation; the Port Clinton Yacht Club and the Catawba Island Club. He was a former member of the Catawba Kiwanis Club. He was past president of the Port Clinton Rotary Club, Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce, and Sandusky Transportation Club. He loved working in his yard and he was affectionately known as "Ink" by many of his friends. Survivors include his wife: Dorothy; sons: Thomas Lee Engler, Port Clinton and Robert Lewis (Donna) Engler, San Francisco, CA; granddaughter: Alexandra Engler; great granddaughter: Arianna; brother: David Engler, Maple Heights, OH; and daughter-in-law: Bonnie Hunt, Holderness, NH. He was preceded in death by his parents; son: William David Engler and sister: Phyllis Hopkins. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 1, from 2-8 PM at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 2 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 207 Adams Street, Port Clinton, where additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Reverend James Lehman will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
