Gary Lester Whiting

Gary Lester Whiting, 72 of Elmore, OH known by his friends as Red, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021 peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born March 6, 1949 in Port Clinton, OH to the late Lester and Mildred (Dirnberg) Whiting. He graduated from Harris-Elmore High School in 1967 and Miami University in 1972. He worked as greens keeper for Sugar Creek Golf Course for 17 years, Jerry Haar Excavating, and Matt Tille Excavating. He was Woodmore High School Girls Track Coach, School Bus Driver, Elmore Girls Softball Coach, and had a sign painting business. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Elmore where he painted signs for the church. He played football and track in High School making lifelong friends. He loved fixing anything, woodworking, gardening, tinkering, playing golf, bowling, going to car races at Fremont Speedway, school sporting events, watching the Cleveland Browns & Indians, watching old movies, old TV shows, 50’s music, and was know by friends for his quick wit. He loved his family, cats and grand dog. He enjoyed going to his grandkids’ sports and activities, and helping them with projects. He married Margie Lohr, of Elmore, July 28, 1979. They had one daughter, Mindy Christine. Gary is survived by his wife, Margie; their wonderful daughter and son-in-law Mindy (Burton) Haren, and precious grandchildren: Kayden, Kenley and Colton Haren; loyal sister and brother – in – law Sharon (Lyle) Peters; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister Linda Whiting. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8pm at the Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elmore-Genoa Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 10am Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at the Funeral Home with Pastor Margaret Mills officiating. Burial will be in Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.crosserpriesmanfuneralhome.com.
