Gary John Walters

Gary John Walters, 60, of Marblehead, Ohio died peacefully in his home, Friday, November 5, 2010, of heart failure after surviving 5 forms of cancer. He was born on January 9, 1950, in Flint, Michigan. He was a graduate of Holy Redeemer Catholic High School, where he excelled in scholastics, football and basketball. He was awarded a full scholarship to The University of Dayton in basketball, where he graduated with a BA in Business Administration. Gary was employed by the Kroger Company for almost 30 years, retiring as Director of Meat and Seafood Merchandising from Kroger Corporate in Cincinnati, Ohio. He managed Oakley IGA, worked for Aunt Millie's Bakery, and Beck Suppliers, managing a top producing Friendship Food Store. He loved living by the lake with his wife and dogs, and fishing for yellow perch. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead. Gary is survived by his wife of 9 years, Joann M. Streacker-Walters, whom he married May 5, 2001; his sons: Jeffrey and daughter in law Megan (Schmidt), of Wyoming, Ohio, and Kevin Walters of Cincinnati, Ohio. He has a granddaughter, Paige and twin grandsons: Landon and Cayden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marie (Goodacre) Walters, and his brother Lynn Walters, all of Flint, Michigan. Friends and family may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay Street, Marblehead where the body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Reverend Daniel J. Ring will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
