Gary B. Smego, Sr.

It is with great sorrow that the family of Gary B. Smego, Sr. of Marblehead, OH announces his passing on Friday, May 17, 2024, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 11, 1944, he was the son of John and Vera Smego. On July 4, 1992, he married Barbara Reynolds, who preceded him in death on October 11, 2016.

Gary is survived by his first wife, Betty Bick, and their children: Gary Jr. (Zaneta) Smego, Kristen Fox, and Megan (Robert) Ross. His grandchildren include Gary III, Lexi, Allison, Nova, Sage, Odessa, and Benjamin. He is also survived by his brother, David Smego, and his dedicated companion, Jane Sheppard.  He was also preceded in death by his brother John Smego.

Gary lived a full and vibrant life. He was an avid outdoorsman, a long-time charter captain, a proud Navy veteran, and a dedicated member of the Steamfitters Local 115, 47, and 449 for 59 years. He was also a passionate Steelers fan, an ardent reader, and a phenomenal cook. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services with military honors will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Rd. Lakeside-Marblehead, OH. Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Additional services will be held at Tatalovich Funeral Home, 3475 Broadhead Road, Monaca, PA 15061.
