Gabriel John Ogrinz, 91, of Catawba Island, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, Ohio. He was born on March 27, 1927 in Forest City, Pennsylvania, the son of Peter and Anconia (Orazen) Ogrinz. He married Marie Parma on August 6, 1949 and she preceded him in death on February 6, 2016. Gabriel was a veteran of the Merchant Marines, US Coast Guard, and US Army, having served during World War II. He was also an alumni of Rutgers University. Gabriel worked as the manager of the shipping and receiving department at the former Uniroyal Plant until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton. He loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his daughters, Nancy Dixon of Columbus, Ohio and Florence Butler of Catawba Island; grandchildren, Michael Jacobs, Michelle (Michael) Moore, Chris (Katrin) Jacobs, Monica (TJ) Putnam, and Jennifer Butler; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter, Janet Bruns, his sisters, Mary Grill, Martha Grill, Jean Chilopa, and Vicki Border; and his brothers, Pete and Emil Ogrinz. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018 from 4-8 pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. On Tuesday, October 16, 2018, prayers will begin at the funeral home at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, Ohio with Father John Missler officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
