G. Paul Corthell

G. Paul Corthell, 95, of Lakeside, Ohio, and formerly of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Monday, July 4, 2011 at North Shore Retirement Community, Lakeside. He was born in Tiffin, Ohio on June 6, 1916, a son of George R. & Orpha S. (Haines) Corthell. Paul was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in Europe. For over 25 years he owned and operated Corthell Electric in Oak Harbor, doing electrical repair work and selling appliances. Paul was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, and served on the church council for several years. He was also a member of V.F.W. Post #8732, Oak Harbor. On July 8, 1941, Paul married the former Doris H. Weidner, and she preceded him in death on May 12, 1987. He is survived by his sons, James (Virginia) Corthell, Holland, Ohio, and Duane Corthell, Arvada, Colorado; his daughter, Kathy (Paul) Eckel, Marblehead, Ohio; brother, Ken (Dorothy) Corthell, Tiffin, Ohio; sister, Janette Holmer, Vancouver, Washington; grandchildren, Adina Sauer, Janell (Mark) Christian, Kristina (Tony) Eberly, Alison Sauvey, Ashley (Brian) Knox, and Ryan Eckel. Also surviving are 5 great-grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, Gilbert, Bob, John, and Don Corthell, and sisters, Helen Cole and Catherine Brooks. The family will receive friends from 2-8 P.M. Wednesday at Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, with the Rev. David A. Voll officiating. Interment will be in Elliston Cemetery, with V.F.W. Post #8732 and American Legion Post #114 providing graveside rites. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ, or North Shore Retirement Community.
