Frederick W. Windisch

June 20, 1927 — September 11, 2011

Frederick William Windisch, age 84, of Oak Harbor, OH and Lake Wales, FL went to meet his heavenly Father on September 11, 2011. He was born June 20, 1927 to Harold & Ivadelle (Zoeschke) Windisch in Lacarne OH. He graduated from Salem Oak Harbor High School in 1945, after which he served in the U.S. Army from February 1946 thru August 1947. He performed mechanical and carpenter work and then began employment at the Erie Army Depot. On August 14, 1949 he married Mary Kathryn Zehner. They resided and began raising their family in the house he built on E. Main St. After graduation from Toledo University in 1964 with a Bachelors Degree in business, he began his employment with the IRS; first in Mansfield, then in Sandusky and eventually Toledo where he retired from the Treasury Department in 1982. His hobbies included fishing, boating, golfing, handyman projects, tennis and card playing. Through the years he was always a gracious host and offered his home for many gatherings of family and friends. From 1985 through 1988 he served as the Administrator of the Village of Oak Harbor. After living for many years in the home on Water Street that he refurbished, they downsized to their current condo residence in Country Meadows. Starting the following year, he and his wife enjoyed spending their winters in Lake Wales, Florida. During his lifetime he belonged to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor and Saddlebag Community Church in Lake Wales, also singing in both choirs. He was a member and past president of the Oak Harbor Rotary Club. He also belonged to Elks Lodge #1718, Port Clinton, Oak Harbor Lodge #495 F. & A.M., the Oak Harbor Golf Club and the Lake Wales Golf Club. Family members include: his wife, Mary; children, Mrs. David (Beth) Witt, Mr. Ray ( Elizabeth Rust) Windisch, and Mrs. Lawrence (Carol) Sullivan; grandchildren Keith ( Christy Cramer) Witt, Karen (Witt) Slesinger, Corinne and Isaac Windisch; great grandchildren, Madison Slesinger, Calan and Ava Witt; brothers Ronald and Walter Windisch; sister Betty Gray, deceased; and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call from 2-4 P.M. Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, where a Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 P.M. Pastor David Tinker will officiate, and interment will be later in Salem Township Union Cemetery. Following the services, a light meal will be served in the social room of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any fund at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donors choice.
