Franklin P. Rose, 88, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the Ohio Veterans' Home, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born in Port Clinton, Ohio on June 13, 1924, a son of Albert & Mattie (Hemminger) Rose. Frank was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 96th Infantry in the South Pacific. Wounded 5 times, he was the recipient of a Purple Heart with 4 clusters. In 1948, Frank was employed as a letter carrier in Oak Harbor for the United States Postal Service. He was promoted to Assistant Postmaster in 1963, and was appointed Postmaster in 1978, in which capacity he served until his retirement in 1982. Frank was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, where he served as an elder and a member of the building committee when the educational unit was added to the church in 1957. He was also a member of American Legion Post #114, Oak Harbor. Frank moonlighted as a house painter and enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty J. (Chio) Rose on March 17, 1960, and his second wife, Shirley J. (Chio) Rose on October 31, 2010. Frank is survived by his children, Phillip (Shirley) Rose, Oak Harbor, Sharon (John) Liske, Oak Harbor, Heather (James) Powell, Fremont, Ohio, and Karen (Fred) Wagner, Oak Harbor; sisters, Emma Wilburn, and Marge (Clyde) Winters, both of Oak Harbor; 14 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ralph Rose and Arthur Rose, and sister, Luella Paulsen. Private funeral services will be held at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, with the Rev. David A. Voll officiating. Public graveside services with military honors provided by American Legion Post #114 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8732 will be conducted at 11:45 A.M. Friday at Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice. Online condolences may be shared with Frank's family at www.crosserfuneralhome.com.
