Francis S. Hogan

Francis S. Hogan, 87, of Port Clinton, Ohio died Monday, September 22, 2008 at Riverview Senior Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor, Ohio. He was born on February 17, 1921 in Gardendale, Alabama, the son of the late Harvey and Venarlee (Clevenger) Hogan. On October 27, 1940 he married Margaret Stewart and she preceded him in death on August 29, 1997. Francis was a United States Army veteran, having served his country during WWII. He worked as a technician at the Erie Army Depot until it closed. He then became the owner/operator of the Sinclair gas station on Fremont Road, as well as the ARCO gas station on Perry Street until he retired in 1988. His hobbies included gardening as well as woodworking. He enjoyed making wooden toys for needy kids at Christmastime. He especially loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great- great grandchildren as well as spending time with them. Survivors include his daughters: Joyce (John)Taggart, Newark, OH; and Sandra (Howard) Ballard, Oak Harbor, OH; sons: Paul (Bonnie) Hogan, San Diego, CA; Ronald (Susan) Hogan, Port Clinton, OH; David (Tina) Hogan, Port Clinton, OH; ten grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister: Stella Wynn, Alabama; and brothers: Harold (Doris) Hogan, Deltona, FL and Arthur (Fay) Hogan, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister: Willamay Barnett and brother: Dennis Hogan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2008 from 9:00-11:00 AM at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, where services will be held at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Ronald Huff officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorial contributions may be made to Ida Rupp Public Library or to Stein Hospice.
